Last night, the organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) released the list of nominees for the 2016 edition of the awards.
Biyi Bandele-directed FIFTY emerged as the film from Nigeria with the highest nominations after finding itself in SIX categories which included Achievement in Cinematography, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Nigerian Film and Achievement in Sound. Stephanie Linus’ Dry was tied with A Soldier’s Story with FOUR nominations each. Dry was nominated in the categories for Best Young/Promising Actor, Best Nigerian Film, Best Film and Best Director.
CJ Obasi’s O-Town gathered THREE nominations for Best Soundtrack, Best Nigerian Film and Best Young/Promising Actor. Other Nigerian films represented on the list include Out of Luck, Falling, Oshimiri, Stupid Movie, Beyond Blood and Missing God. Other representatives are Encounter, Life of a Nigerian Couple, Ireti, 8 Bars & A Clef, and Meet the Parents.
The 2016 AMAA ceremony will hold on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
