Organisers of the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have come out to take responsibility for the disgraceful aftermath of the 2015 awards ceremony which saw several Nollywood stars stranded in South Africa for days after attending the September 26 Port Elizabeth event.
The likes of Tunde Kelani, Odunlade Adekola, Sadiq Daba, Stanlee Ohikhuare, Kunle Afolayan who had to celebrate his 40th birthday on the flight back to Nigeria, and several others were stranded for four days after the event and didn’t return to the country until Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
After a period of silence, AMAA, via its official Twitter handle apologised to all affected and promised to learn from this year’s mistakes while preparing for subsequent ceremonies.
In the colourful event held at Port Elizabeth, seven of the main awards went to Nigeria even though Timbuktu carted away the coveted Best Film award.
