Ant-Man has scored the lowest domestic opening for Marvel Studios since The Incredible Hulk, according to THR.
The Marvel movie trailed Amy Schumer‘s Trainwreck after gathering $58 million. That figure is a far cry from Marvel Studio’s solo debut, Iron Man (2008) which collected $98.6 million.
However, the movie did better in its first 37 markets outside North America. Ant-Man earned $56.4 million, beating well ahead of the first Captain America and Thor.
Monster Hunt (China), Minions and Chinese movie Jian Bing Man all earned better than the world’s tiniest superhero movie, raking in $72 million, $66.2 million and $61 million respectively.
Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd as con-man Scott Lang who, armed with a super-suit with the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, attempts to pull off a heist that will save the world. The film reportedly cost $130 million to produce.
