Nollywood statistics might be impressive – it is the second largest film production industry in the world. However, arguably the biggest shortcoming peculiar to the brand is in the area of the quality of films being churned out, which makes the same industry that is highly coveted across the world to also be the scorn of the movie world.
There are some producers and actors who feel it is very important that Nollywood needs to make quality its watchword and put it above all other criteria in making movies.
Tony Goodman is one of such people who passionately wants a drastic change from the quantity trend to a more quality control model type of Nigerian movie industry.
Goodman who has Girls Cot, Illicit Ways and The Visitors to his credit said, “The movie market is somehow littered with myriads of movies. Moviegoers now believe that the content of some Nigerian movies are too shallow and biased. Nollywood has come under harsh criticism in terms of production, quality control, and professionalism. So, people are now tired of same story pattern.“
He continued, “If there is control, the quality of our films in terms of content and depth will be enhanced. Let them set a benchmark to control producers’ activities. Anyone who does not meet up with the standards and requirements should not be a producer…“
