Because of its theme, Bollywood movie, Bangistan has been banned from public and private viewing in the UAE. The film is a comedy on terrorism and stars Riteish Deshmukh and Pulkit Samrat as aspiring terrorists.
Though it takes a sarcastic approach to terrorism, it is made with the intention to ridicule the motive of terrorism. Bangistan has already been banned in Pakistan for allegedly being anti-Pakistan because of its make-over of real Indian-Pakistani cross-border terrorist activities.
What the filmmakers cannot come to terms with is the reason UAE film censor board has chosen to withhold its approval for the film’s release considering it has no reference on any political, economic or historical situations peculiar to the UAE. The film’s director, Karan Anshuman is quite optimistic, however, of getting the green light for the movie to be released.
The worldwide release of Bangistan was scheduled for August 7, 2015.
