Nollywood actor, Yomi Fash-Lanso has hit out at those who call Yoruba-speaking actors as illiterates. The actor was reacting to the recent claims by fellow actor, Mercy Aigbe that Yoruba-speaking actors are discriminated against by their English-speaking counterparts.
Aigbe’s claims came after she was “snubbed” by ThisDay Style magazine in its list of best dressed Nollywood stars. According to her, her outfit to this year’s Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) was worthy of the magazine’s recognition. This omission sparked accusations of discrimination directed at the English-speaking segment of Nollywood.
In his chat with HipTV, Yomi Fash-Lanso called those discriminating against Yoruba-speaking actors “stupid.”
“What is illiteracy? Can you give me the terminology for illiteracy? ‘We don’t speak English’ Is English our language? Whoever says [that those who don’t speak English are illiterates] to you, tell that person he’s a very stupid person,” Fash-Lanso lashed out.
