Chinese blockbuster Monster Hunt is set for a U.S. release as rights for its release in North America have been sold. The movie which now has its North American release date in 2016, is set to be one of the highest selling Chinese films of all time, with it even expected to surpass the highest selling movie till date Furious 7.
The said rights were acquired by independent film distributor, FilmRise and it is expected to release the film in all media formats in early 2016.
Monster Hunt has already grossed an estimated $370m in Chinese cinemas alone and it is expected to do even more with this new deal. It was produced by Edko an Hong Kong movie company and stars a mixture of Chinese and Hong Kong cast.
It is an animation piece that was directed by Rama Hui (Shrek 3). Monster Hunt is a spellbinding CGI with plenty of entertaining scenes for both adults and kids.
One of the highlights of the success of the film is that it took only $40m to produce it and is on course for a triple profit margin even without this new North American deal. Little wonder it is expected to be the highest selling film in Chinese movie history.
