Directed by Okey Oku, Bambitious is a movie about two supposed lovers Bambi (Belinda Effah) and Frank (Buchi Franklin). Even though they love each other, Bambi feels Frank can do much better but this always results in quarrel anytime the topic is up for discussion. After one of their quarrels Bambi, finally decides to leave Frank’s house. Her friend Ifeoma (Idongesit Bruno) comes to pick her up from Frank’s and Bambi begins a new life but her ex-lover keeps trailing her movement.
Bambi meets a new guy Jerry (Daniel K Daniel) who is rich and single, and no sooner had they meet, than he proposed marriage to her.
Meanwhile Frank sent Ifeoma to give Bambi a message not to give his baby to another man as he arrived at the calculation when he saw she didn’t use the sanitary towel he brought her when they were still together. This situation set a tense atmosphere for Bambi after she vomited after Jerry’s proposal and concluded she was pregnant without running a pregnancy test.
Jerry also had an ex-lover Funmi Coker (Hekka Hadet) who teamed up with Frank so they can fight for their lovers. She is able to get Frank to spill on Bambi’s pregnancy which she used to her advantage to break Bambi and Jerry’s relationship. The break up came in at a time when Jerry’s mum (Ebele Okaro) had just run tests for her son and his wife to be.
With the true love Jerry had towards Bambi, he was able to forgive her and was willing to accept her. This doesn’t not go down well with Funmi. She thought Jerry’s mum would support her on this but she got a shock. Frank also stepped up in his career as he finally made headway as he got a job.
The movie was short and straight to the point no “sme sme” (over flogging, unnecessary or prolonged scenes). Every other area is also good. It was also refreshing to see Frank Buchi act as a lover boy having seen him act different roles on Tinsel and AY’s crib.
However, I didn’t like the fact that Bambi did not conduct a test when she felt nauseous and threw up. It is not only pregnancy that makes one nauseous but that assumption is where the plot of the movie developed.
My verdict: The movie is good.
