Chief Operating Officer, KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission, South Africa, Jackie Motsepe has told newsmen that the commission’s producers delegation was in Nigeria to strengthen filmmaking ties between her country and Nigeria.
According to her, it was important that more Nollywood filmmakers are attracted to South Africa due to how prolific the Nigerian movie-making industry is.
Motsepe told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, “Shortly after last year’s African International Film Festival in Nigeria, we realized for the first time with our eyes how big and prolific the Nigerian Nollywood industry really is. That was when we resolved that we should and must begin to engage actively with Nollywood filmmakers in producing their films.“
She continued, “We have even in July, this year, invited some Nollywood filmmakers to Durban, Kwazulu-Natal on a fact-finding mission on what we can offer them in shooting and producing their films.“
Motsepe revealed that the Kwazulu Commission delegation was keen on alerting Nigerian filmmakers to the opportunities of producing their films in KwaZulu, Durban, South Africa.
