Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima was on Thursday granted a N2million bail by a Lagos state Court of Appeal.
Ibinabo who is facing a 5-year jail term was granted the bail with two sureties in like sum after the court decided that her bail application had merit. The court held that the actress had not jumped bail in the past.
“It would amount to injustice if after Fiberesima had been kept in prison, the Supreme Court later, after about three to four years, decide that the five year jail term imposed on her should be set aside,” Samuel Oseji, who read out the judgment passed by the three-man panel of judges, said.
However, there was division within the three judges as regards Ibinabo Fiberesima’s bail request citing ill health. One of the judges, Y.B Nimpar, was of the opinion that the former AGN president’s ill-health grounds for seeking bail could not be justified as there was no record before the court of the actress developing complications after undergoing a breast cancer surgery in February.
It will be recalled that on March 12, the Court of Appeal dismissed Ibinabo’s appeal against the 5-year jail term slammed on her in 2009 in her trial for manslaughter.
