SUEGBE: So I just saw a flyer, it said that I could win an opportunity to get my story made into a film.
PAKO: That’s amazing, what kind of film?
SUEGBE: It didn’t say, I think it’s a feature film because it’s from Filmone
PAKO: Have you written a feature film before?
SUEGBE: Well the flyer asks for first time writers, that’s why it’s such a great opportunity.
PAKO: Sounds good, writing a feature is not beans sha, so what’s the pay?
SUEGBE: It didn’t say, it just said to submit a story proposal and my CV and they could pick my story to make into a film
PAKO: Ahh so the pay is exposure, who film credit don epp?
SUEGBE: Why are you being negative? Can’t you see the opportunity here? You never know where the film will go, I mean they will invite me for the premiere and I might even bring you. Imagine my film on Netflix!
PAKO: Isn’t the story an important element to making a film?
SUEGBE: Yup, it’s the bedrock, my story will be the foundation that all the other elements will be built on.
PAKO: Will the film be free of charge?
SUEGBE: How now? It will be in cinemas nationwide and possibly Netflix.
PAKO: So will the actors act for free? Will the equipment come free of charge? Will they edit for free? Or are the proceeds of the film going to the IDPs
SUEGBE: You are being shortsighted, not everything is about money you know. FilmOne made Taxi Driver and Out of Luck, those were part of the biggest films of 2015
PAKO: I saw that, they were the highest grossing, made millions, were the stories free? Do you at least get a back end even if you don’t get paid up front?
SUEGBE: What is back end?
PAKO: You know like a percentage of the film revenues.
SUEGBE: Lol, no body does back end here. Do you know that Taxi Driver is even nominated for an AMVCA? The opportunities are endless.
PAKO: Hmmm ok so who wrote it?
You are just not seeing the big picture, imagine me being the next Tunde Babalola
PAKO: Isn’t he the highest paid screenwriter?
SUEGBE: But he started from somewhere, you think he didn’t give away free scripts?
PAKO: If FilmOne is one of the big guys in the industry, with highest grossing movies, and good stories are a foundation, isn’t it important to invest in that foundation?
SUEGBE: They are looking for diamonds in the rough, me I just need the opportunity to get my name out there sha, after they watch my film, they will read the credits and my phone will start buzzing non-stop.
PAKO: All the best oh, I just hope all the people that call you are not looking to pay you in exposure.
SUEGBE: Na, this is a one time deal. After all they said FIRST TIME writers, after this one, I will be a SECOND TIME writer and that is mad pepper.
PAKO: Only if first time diamonds have finished, why pay when there will always be people looking to work for free.
SUEGBE: But I will have the experience, the exposure, the awards.
PAKO: So why are they not calling Tunde, why are they looking for you?
SUEGBE: Bad belle. You are not invited to the premiere.
