Hollywood director, F. Gary Gray has set a new record as the highest selling black director for a single movie with the blockbuster Straight Outta Compton after the movie clocked an incredible figure of $157.5 million in U.S and Canada’s domestic box office.
Before these figures and records set by Gary there had been only two black directors that have had close to that much success for a single film and that was the duo of Keenan Ivory Wayans for the Scary Movie and Tim Story who struck gold with Fantastic Four blockbuster with $157 million$154.6 million respectively.
The feat is only getting better and wider by the day for F. Gary Gray as Straight Outta Of Compton is still getting bigger by the day and is largely expected to hit the $200m mark because other regions of the world are catching up with the hype and likely to enter more markets including Africa.
If achieved, it will beat every imagination that the producers of the movie likely had for investing in the bio-pic initially.
