The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has banned The Man Who Mends Women, a film about a Congolese gynecologist who treated women were raped during the war in the country.
Denis Mukwege founded and works in Panzi Hospital where he specializes in the treatment of women who have been gang-raped by rebel forces.
The banned film follows the story of Mukwege as he attempts to treat the internal physical injuries of victims of sexual violence by Congolese rebels.
The country’s Media Minister, Lambert Mende told the AFP, “I have decided not to approve this film. There is a clear intent to harm and sully the image of our army and no country in the world could tolerate it. That is why we have banned the showing of the film here.“
