Nollywood actor and national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Ike granted an interview to TVC recently and discussed various issues ranging from taking over from Ibinabo Fiberesima, Segun Arinze to Kunle Afolayan‘s high budget movie and the wife-beating allegations leveled against him sometime ago.
He made it clear that there’s no crisis in the AGN saying it has been logically and legitimately resolved and that the media only wanted something to feed on and decided to spin their own stories. He also made subtle jabs at the immediate past president of the AGN, Ibinabo Fiberesima, saying her status as a convict makes her very unfit for a leadership role and a bad role model to the younger generation. He accused her of indecent behaviour with the former president Goodluck Jonathan saying “we are not running a prostitution cartel”.
He said something about Segun Arinze not having a first degree (which is a bit confusing because Segun Arinze was said to have studied Dramatic Arts in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife).
Emeka Ike ridiculed Kunle Afolayan’s creative efforts by saying “Don’t tell me Kunle Afolayan is making a fantastic movie. You gave him 200 million Naira for crying out loud. The entire industry has not even used 200 million before now to make movies for God’s sake now. So if you give a dunce that money, he can get the best producer. So it’s not a fantastic thing, you are not making me feel oppressed.” Kunle Afolayan has since responded to the jab saying “I don’t respond to such, he (Emeka Ike) is irrelevant.”
