Earlier today, TNS broke the story about Magic Lights Film Academy allegedly sending text messages to actors demanding money before they would feature in its upcoming production.
Nollywood actress, Chioma Nwosu cried out through her Facebook account, posting the text message on her wall and issuing an Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) disclaimer.
TNS called the number that was used to send out the text messages and one Mr. Ziki who spoke to us and introduced himself as the Secretary of the production company agreed that the messages were indeed sent with the number but claimed that the phone number was hacked into by an angered member of the audition panel. According to Ziki (he refused to give his full name), this audition panel member was angered that he would not be part of the production team and decided to get back at Magic Lights by hacking into their email database as well as the phone number which was used he used in sending out the numbers.
When Mr. Ziki was asked why he didn’t want to reveal the name of the blackmailer, he said, “I do not want it to seem like I’m using evil to repay evil. I do not want to tarnish his name.” Ziki who also claimed to double as the Publicity Secretary of the outfit continued, “I tried to arrest him this morning when the story went viral, but friends pleaded that I should leave him.“
Ziki also said that one of the reasons it was easy for the person in question to carry out the act was that they gave access to all their audition panelists access to their official email address. He further revealed that Magic Lights has sent out messages to the shortlisted candidates asking them to ignore the fraudulent message.
According to Ziki, a meeting with the shortlisted candidates has been scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 38, McCarthy Street, by Maloney Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
