Ok. I have to do this. Now or never.
I have never done this #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) thingy. Honestly, I don’t even know if people still do it. I actually don’t care. I just have to do it. Today. Not next week. Not some other time.
A few months ago, I was snooping through Nk’iru. Njoku‘s Facebook timeline (yes I do, quite often too…she speaks some of the truest words out there) when I came across a post about a young lady and what she does with young children who hitherto had limited opportunities. I immediately added her and began following her closely. We have never directly interacted, although there’s the occasional post “likes” here and there.
In a world that hardly blinks twice before celebrating crooks and moral bastards, and adore people for the wrong reasons (read Kim Kardashian), what Seyi is doing with “her” children is one that inspires me each of my awake moments. It takes a person with heart and courage to try half of that. She is a shining light giving young minds hope even in this frequently cruel dog-eat-dog world.
She is my Woman Crush Wednesday
If you read this, Seyi Oluyole, not only are you an inspiration to those kids. You inspire adults like me too. I’m sure it is not words you need right now (my thumbs danced over your August 21, 11:07pm post for several minutes without knowing what to type as comment), I hope and pray that, apart from having your short & long-term needs met, this inspirational tale of yours will be told in places you haven’t even dreamt of visiting.
On behalf of these kids and their futures, I say thank you!
