Veteran Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo is one of the many Nigerians who found President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement during a recent press conference with the German chancellor Angela Merkel very offensive.
When the topic of his wife’s criticism of his government came up, the president said, “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”
Th statement upset several people who felt women already had enough challenges trying to prove themselves and a statement like that coming from a president was not helping matters.
Dokubo took to her Instagram page to post a video of herself giving her opinion about the president’s statement.
She said, “Hi, my name is Hilda Dokubo and I am a woman. I do not belong to the kitchen. I go to the kitchen to fix food for my family and myself, we eat there sometimes, I don’t belong there. I do not belong to the bedroom either, I sleep there, it is is my rest place. My things are there but I do not belong there. I do not belong to the sitting room, it is a lounging place, I rest there and I watch television. I do not belong to the OTHER room because I don’t know where the other room is in my house except that this other room sounds like the toilet, I cannot belong to the toilet. I am a woman and I deserve my right to be a human being.”
