Actor and president of the Actors Guild Of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima is currently reportedly facing a five year jail term because of a crime she committed in 2006 – where she ran into the car of a doctor, an accident which eventually claimed the life of said doctor.
However, while everyone is having mixed reactions to Ibinabo’s conviction, we spoke to a lawyer who has shared with us the possibilities of the Most Wanted Actress escaping jail term.
According to Lawyer Obehi Abibu, the Actress may actually never serve the jail term facing her and no, this is not because she is a famous person.
Abibu says if Ibinabo Fiberesima’s lawyer appeals the sentence she is currently facing, then she stands a chance of not going to jail.
He added that she can appeal on two main grounds
- the facts relied upon by the court was not enough to convict her and
- the Court did not weigh her own facts/her own evidence.
The accident happened in 2005, Ibinabo was originally given the option of a fine of N100,000, a fine which a lot, including the family of the deceased (reportedly) found offensive.
The actor is reportedly in the process of appealing.
