Hollywood power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are headed for a divorce, according to reports. Jolie was said to have filed for divorce after they separated on September 15, about two years after their August 2014 wedding in the French hamlet of Correns in Provence.
The Tomb Raider actress cited “irreconcilable differences” in court documents and there are rumours that there was also substance abuse and anger problems on Pitt’s side. A source told CNN that the couple wants as little drama as possible for the sake of the children as they both want an amicable divorce.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids,” Pitt said today in a statement to CNN. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
“Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest to protect her children. She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time,” Geyer Kosinski, Angelina Jolie’s manager told E! News earlier today.
Angelina is filing for custody of their six children- Maddox, Pax, Zahara, who are adopted, and biological children Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne and has asked the court to grant Pitt visitation.
Brad and Angelina became an item in 2004 on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith while he was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston who filed for divorce soon after in 2005. Angelina will be represented by high-profile divorce lawyer Laura Wasser who has worked for Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds, Heidi Klum, Ashton Kutcher, Christina Aguilera, Marta Kauffman, Kim Kardashian, Stevie Wonder and Britney Spears in the past.
