Disney child actress, Skai Jackson is no stranger to the movie industry. The Jessie star has featured in a number of movies and TV shows and has been working very hard to move up the ladder in the industry.
She made the rounds recently when 25-year-old singer, Azealia Banks came for her on Twitter after Skai told her to simmer down on her attack on some celebrities.
Skai wrote a touching piece on her Instagram page yesterday about her struggles as a child actress raised by a single mother, how hard she has to work and how she’s only a normal 14-year-old.
Read what she wrote below:
A lot of people don’t know that I’ve been in this business for 13 almost 14 years. I didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. I wasn’t a meme first or a random girl who had a Twitter fight with someone else. I grew up in NYC with a single mom who gave up her job so I could at least make enough money just so I could go to a good college. I’ve worked nonstop since I was 9 months old. I’ve done hundreds of print ads, over 30 commercials, guest starred on tv shows, did voice over jobs on Dora the Explorer and Bubble Guppies, did a handful of movies all before I booked Disney’s Jessie and had to move to California at the age of 9. Most of you now know me because of the 2 shows I’ve been on the last 5 years. Nothing for me ever came easy. I still get rejected for a lot of jobs. I’m just a normal kid like everyone else. I still have to clean my room, do chores around the house and get good grades. I’m saying all of this because I do read a lot of your comments. Most of you guys are really supportive and really nice. But there are a lot of you who question why I’m famous, who is she, I think I’m better than anyone else blah, blah, blah. My name is Skai, I’m 14 years old, I love my job, I love my mom, my family, my dog, I go to church on Sunday, I participate with charities, I have downtime with my friends, still get in trouble if I mess up. And no, I’m not rich. I just work hard so that I can be one day. Whatever your dreams are, don’t give up. Nothing worth it comes easy…it wasn’t easy for me.
