I am mindeding my bizness
What it is?
I’m cooker jelor price
These phrases are very familiar to those of us that are ardent viewers of popular sitcom Jenifa’s Diary. Produced by Funke Akindele who also plays the lead role, Jenifa is a story about a village girl seeking a better life in Lagos. Armed with terrible English and a hustler’s spirit, she’s ready to take on any challenge to become a “bigz geh”. She’s skilled in hair styling and worked at Nikky O salon until… (sorry, spoiler alert).
I just watched the eleventh episode of season 5 and I’m wondering why Jenifa’s English is still as terrible as it was in the first season. Jenifa relates with people that speak amazing English, she gets corrected every time but it’s still the same. Her sense of style and her “makeupping” skills are on fleek but this her English ehn.
What is Jenifa without her bad English you might ask?
I agree, but a few correct sentences and pronunciations here and there won’t hurt.
Till then, my jelor price is burning, cash ya lerra.
