Coming on the heels of the Save Mayowa brouhaha, Kate Henshaw‘s humanitarian efforts are reportedly being frustrated by the family of a young boy, Michael who she is attempting to help.
According to Punch, Kate Henshaw’s attention was drawn to the condition of Michael and his mother sometime in March when the mother was out begging with the boy. The duo were found in Ikoyi and Kate immediately swung into action by getting them admitted at LUTH. She also alerted Project Alert on Violence Against Women, a non-governmental organisation, which involved the Lagos State Government.
After some back and forth with the mother of the child, Mary as a result of her lack of cooperation, Mary was prevented from seeing Micheal and Michael’s care was taken over by his grandmother. It was at this point that Kate started to regret her involvement in the case as the family of the boy was starting to doubt her integrity and she swore off direct soliciting of funds from the public for any cause.
She said, “A little part of me regrets; even though the Bible says we should not be tired of doing good. The family is giving us problems; but we are committed to the health and medical care of Baby Michael.
“With my experience, there is going to be a lethargic, tired attitude of celebrities when they are called to cases like this in the future. They may donate, but for someone like me to come out and say before the camera that ‘I, Kate Henshaw…’ It’s not happening again.”
Hoowever, Mary’s sister has said that the communication between the family and the actress was strained and that Mary left because she was being frustrated by social welfare workers and felt caged. She also mentioned that her family was capable of taking care of Michael and that Kate and Project Alert could help with just the financial aspects of Michael’s treatment.
