News is Uche Jombo Rodriguez has joined the growing list of actors who have gone into producing and then decided to try their hands in directing.
Uche who has been around for a while and only recently starred in the made-for-laughs-only film, Wives on Strike has released the teaser trailer for her directing debut, Lost in Us.
The film stars Uche Jombo, Ruth Kadiri, Lilian Esoro-Franklin, Okey Uzoeshi, Mary Lazarus, Ike Nnaebue, Vincent Opurum, Desmond Elliott and others and it tells the story of Uzo, a young man with erotomania and an actress, who he believes is in love with him.
After watching the Lost in Us trailer, here are our thoughts:
- It doesn’t come as a surprise that Uche Jombo has decided to direct a film. Seeing the success* of Omoni Oboli’s film, one who would have been foolish to bet against one of the stars thinking it is a good idea to also do some directing.
*Please note, the success of Wives on Strike is very relative.
- The trailer doesn’t call you in, neither does it send you away. Whether this is intentional remains to be seen, but the trailer doesn’t quite say much and that could actually work both ways for the film. From the trailer, you can hardly conclude if the film will be a good one or a bad one. If it ends up being good, then good for the director as only maybe a handful will write off the film from this clip. If it turns out bad, then, at least the trailer hasn’t quite scared a lot of people away. You see? Smart work.
- The acting won’t have you queuing up for the premier. Despite the conservative nature of the trailer however, those who are acting buffs can almost conclude that there won’t be exceptional acting on show in this film. It isn’t a given though. But you can likely put your money on not being wowed when you eventually go to see it in the cinema.
- Uche Jombo’s effort deserves some commendation whether Lost in Us gets lost in the cinemas or not. Despite her obvious flaws as an actor (she cannot individually carry a film, Uche’s best performances arguably come when she is in the midst of others**), she keeps plugging away. Now, she has entered unfamiliar waters. Hopefully, she stays afloat.
