Outspoken Nollywood producer and director, Mildred Okwo, has this morning taken a swipe at her fellow producers after claiming that they inflate their movies’ cinema grossing rates in Nigerian cinema so as to pull wool over the eyes of investors.
She was reacting to a Wikipedia which listed the 20 highest grossing Nollywood movies in domestic cinemas. According to the list, AY Makun‘s slapstick, 30 Days in Atlanta leads, having made N137.2 million after its release in 2014.
Okwo tweeted her thoughts about the list early this morning:
The US-trained lawyer turned filmmaker whose award-winning movie, The Meeting failed to make the list is nailed-on to draw criticism for her tweet, with many likely to argue that she is just pained that her movie did not make the list.
