The Suru L’ere premiere has made my week. I’m so glad I was able to attend regardless of my hectic work schedule.
Movies like this one are the things that make a writer tick. Sis Mildred Okwo has been threatening me with police, bullying me to give her a movie to shoot. Back in the day my hesitance was as a result of not feeling like I could give her a good enough story. So I would dodge, hem and haw, give excuses and explanations.
However, I have since grown. Had I not had a busy two years playing mommy and juggling life, I would have succumbed to her threats by now.
And I will succumb! Because she’s one director in whose hands I would like to put a story/screenplay written by me.
She’s the one living Nigerian director that I want to be like when I grow up.
Our story telling is not yet perfect. But what Mildred does is that she makes better films each time. Her films have the one ingredient without which a story is pure shite. Mildred’s films have HEART. Pure and simple.
I take so much inspiration from her, and if I ever called anyone a mentor in directing, apart from the late Amaka Igwe, it would definitely be Mildred Okwo.
And oh my goodness – Seun Ajayi!!! Whaaaat?! Awesome actor. I was not wrong about you and even though I have no right to be, I am proud of you. You will go very far.
Alright everyone, go see the movie Suru L’ere as soon as you can.
PS: Sis Mildred, my tee-sharrt nko? Don’t try me. I will call the other members of the hydra-headed demon o!
