The days of certain individuals illegally transmitting DStv signals to people looks to be coming to an end as the Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) on Saturday, March 19, 2016 clamped down on several spots in Enugu and seized illegal broadcast and transmission devices.
The devices estimated to be worth N3.5million were seized by the commission’s Anti-Transmission Piracy unit after complaints by digital satellite service company, MultiChoice.
In the raid which took place at Obiagu Road, Achara Layout and Ogui area of Enugu, 34 decoders, 9 satellite dishes, 2 generating sets, 2 inverters and 1 television set were seized according to a statement by NCC’s Director of Enforcement, Augustine Amodu.
He continued, “They collected a fee ranging from N2, 000 to N3, 000 monthly, making Mutichoice that owns the business to run at a loss. The commission came down to Enugu to help curb this ugly menace of illegality which is very unfortunate.”
