A lot of noise was made about its arrival. Many Nigerians and even Africans looked forward to it. At last, there was an African answer to the immensely popular American TV series, Desperate Housewives. Even though more recent television serials like Empire, How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal seem to have turned the heads of viewers, there’s no point arguing that Desperate Housewives was not popular.
So, when EbonyLife TV, the cable television outfit owned by talk show host and entrepreneur, Mo Abudu, announced that it was giving us one more reason to stay alive in Desperate Housewives Africa, Nigerians waited. Names that included Nini Wacera, Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) 20o3 Omutu Blessing, TV Presenter turned actress Michelle Dede, AMVCA-winning actress Kehinde Bankole, US/Canada-based Nigerian actress Linda Osifo and TV presenter and actress Dolapo Oni were called among the female cast of the series, and there was even more reason to anticipate.
The show finally premiered yesterday, but rather than applause and a yearning for more, the show was greeted with anger – on social media.
Nigerians took to Twitter to vent their anger at what some of them described as a “joke” and “copy and paste.”
See some of the scathing opinions that have been flying around on Twitter since last night.
