If you have been paying attention to trending news in Nollywood, then you must have heard that Actress Patience Ozokwor has renewed her faith and, might not be returning to the Industry that made her famous.
According to an Interview she exclusively gave, the Actress, also referred to as Mama G by her fans, was making N1.5 million a week before she chose to take the major decision that has got people talking.
However, Patience Ozokwor is not the first Nollywood star to do this. Years ago, at the height of her career, Actress Liz Benson chose to go the same path as Ozokwor and for a long time, went off the radar.
Here is a list of Nollywood stars who got born again, declared their faith publicly and then, became scarce onscreen…
Before his face became a meme favorite, Actor Charles Okafor could very much boast to be an A lister. Acting in blockbusters like Conspiracy and Igodo, Charles was at the top of his game before he suddenly disappeared from the acting business.
And even though there were many stories about the reason he left, the Actor himself revealed his reason a few years back. According to him, he had found God and he couldn’t “serve God and Mammon”.
Charles Okafor is however returning to the screen in Steve Gukas’ upcoming film, 93 Days.
Once upon a time, Eucharia Anunobi was in three out of five movies released in Nollywood. With a great following and a knack for controversy, the Actress who had her big break courtesy of Nollywood classic Glamour Girls looked like she’d never vacate her throne in the business.
However, Eucharia’s face became scarce in movies and her fans were told about her new found faith. Since Eucharia became a Minister, she’s barely in any film.
Whether this is courtesy of her spirituality or she just decided to take a break is unknown.
With movies like True Confession, Yesterday and Glamour Girls (to name a few), Liz Benson seemed like she’d rule Nollywood forever.
Becoming one of the highest paid Actresses in the business back when Nollywood was a baby, Liz Benson soon took time off the business.
Her supposed reason? She became a minister in Church.
However, Liz Benson has recently returned to the business and like before, she’s been killing it.
Actor Jayke Aernan was a popular face in Nollywood movies decades ago. The Ghanaian Actor grew a large fanbase back when the Ghanian movie Industry wasn’t as popular as it is around here these days.
When he suddenly disappeared, he was said to have become a Church minister in Ghana. Jayke still acts but clearly, not as much as before. He is also reported to be working more behind the scenes.
Patience Ozokwor (of course)
Previously having a strong christian faith, nobody saw the star Actress’ new lifestyle coming in years. According to an interview she gave, she might not be returning to Nollywood courtesy of this faith.
We are all for the Actors renewing their faith! We will miss Patience Ozokwor if she decides to leave though.
