He won the AMAA award for Best Supporting Actor in 2013. He bagged 2 nominations at the 2013 Nollywood Movie Awards. He successfully combines acting with singing, a part of his creativity he has been practicing since 1997. Recently, multi-talented Gabriel Olasubomi Afolayan released the video of his hit track – Awelewa – directed in Seychelles by his brother and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.
In this chat with TNS‘ ‘Segun Odejimi, Afolayan talks about his art, Nollywood and why Black is his favourite movie of all-time.
What led you into acting?
How do you prepare for a role when you first get the script?
Which character has been your favourite to play so far in your career and why?
Secondly, the level of emotion of the character falls into different layers which if care is not taken, could be misconstrued. Playing with different actors from all over Africa was indeed a marvelous moment for me. They were awesome. We had actors from South Africa, Tanzania, Seychelles, Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Ghana.
Is there a role you can never play as an actor? If yes, why?
None whatsoever. In as much the pay is worth it, let’s go there!
