Egyptian actor Omar Sharif (born Michel Demitri Chalhoub) died after suffering a heart attack in his native Cairo on Friday July 10, 2015.
Sharif, who had done about 20 films and was already a star in Egypt before starring in David Lean‘s 1962 British classic, Lawrence of Arabia, is fondly remembered as a subtle actor with the ability to give very intense performances.
Apart from Lawrence of Arabia, Omar Sharif is also reputed for his performance as Doctor Zhivago in another David Lean Classic, Doctor Zhivago. He also shared the screen with Hollywood legend Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl and its sequel, Funny Lady.
The actor, known to have suffered from Alzheimer disease, was also one of the greatest Bridge card game players in the world and recently developed an iPhone app around the game.
