Her pidgin is heavily infused with her British accent but that did not stop Lancelot Imasuen from featuring Claire Edun aka Oyinbo Princess in his latest movie, ATM.
Claire Edun, a former air hostess from Winchester, England became popular sometime last year after releasing a video of herself speaking Pidgin on YouTube.
In an interview with BBC, she said about speaking pidgin, “For people that don’t know, it is obviously a very weird thing that you can’t even say how, what, why. In Pidgin you can literally just say one thing and everyone knows what you mean or you can even just make a sound.”
She then goes on to explain some common phrases and sounds in Pidgin. Speaking further about what got her interested in speaking Pidgin and in Nigeria in general, she said, “I’ve always had a passion for culture, different backgrounds, religions and things like that. I feel like we’re all equal doesn’t matter where we’re from or what we have or haven’t got. I just particularly like Pidgin English because I find that I can express myself so much easier than in English.”
