According to a report, several policemen, in the company of the management of the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, stormed the Artists Village located at the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) located at the National Theatre and unleashed terror on the occupants.
The event which occurred on Friday saw an artist get shot in the leg during the fracas while structures and items belonging to the artists were left in ruins.
Damola ‘Wildeye’ Ogundele, on his Facebook page, wrote:
“The famous Artists Village at NCAC was invaded… by the Management of the National Theatre with some Policemen. They demolished the structures belonging to the artists, and an artist was shot in the leg. First it was Jelili Atiku, now this, What ever happened to due process and dialogue. The situation remains tense at the art village.“
It is however unclear whether the invasion was preceded by an eviction notice demanding that the artists vacate the NCAC.
