On Sunday, July 10, 2016, top Nollywood producer, Kunle Afolayan held the Lagos grand premiere of his latest movie, The CEO at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
During the event, he pleaded with pirates not to undermine his creative efforts by pirating the movie stating that he had borrowed money from the Bank of Industry (BoI) to finance the movie that reportedly cost about 200 million Naira to produce.
He said, “I borrowed N50million from Bank of Industry to produce this film. Please do not pirate the film. I beg you o. I need to pay back the money. I think I have 13 months left. Please help o!”
The plea probably came in order to avoid the experience he had with pirates in 2015 when he was about to release his award-winning movie, October 1. Pirates were said to have gotten a hold of the master copy of the movie and went ahead to distribute pirated copies of the movie.
The CEO first premiered aboard an Air France flight to Paris on June 1.
