Information reaching TNS suggests that there’s more to Marcy Dolapo Oni‘s departure from EbonyLife TV than what has been said.
Dolapo Oni cut her presenting teeth on M-NET‘s Studio 53 Extra before being invited to co-host the then flagging ‘Moments with Mo‘, alongside Bolanle Olukanni and the show’s main anchor Mo Abudu, after the two co-anchors won a reality TV show search.
TNS reliable sources say that it was well understood by all parties when Dolapo was brought on board that she, eventually, wanted to do her own show, which was one of the reasons she wanted to leave 53 Extra. Therefore, her joining the ‘Moments with Mo’ was to ease her passage into her own place as a solo TV show host/producer.
Problems started however when The Marcy Project, Dolapo’s own TV show was ready and she couldn’t get a spot for it on EbonyLife TV. TNS sources claim that Mo Abudu rejected the show for unknown reasons, although speculations are that she did not think that the time was right for Dolapo to start her own show, while the expected rejuvenation of ‘Moments with Mo’ had not happened, despite having Dolapo and Bolanle on the show, alongside new guest hosts such as Toke Makinwa and Dakore Akande.
According to TNS sources, Dolapo felt betrayed as she had been made promises before (leaving) abandoning 53 Extra. Subsequently, she took her show, The Marcy Project, to Africa Magic and found acceptance there. This move is said to have angered Mo Abudu so much that she fired Dolapo Oni over the phone.
TNS sources say that Mo’s anger is hinged on her perception of Africa Magic as a direct rival to EbonyLife TV and therefore sees Dolapo’s move as an indication that she does not know where her bread is buttered. It is believed that Mo Abudu would have preferred Dolapo to have waited until ‘Moments with Mo’ returned to its pre-EbonyLife TV respected status and then perhaps branch out on her own.
