Yesterday, news broke that the widely publicised campaign to raise funds for cancer patient, Ahmed Mayowa that was tagged SaveMayowa was a scam.
One of the leaders of the campaign, Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu had to go to the police station yesterday because of the scam reports.
Here’s what we know though, there are several sides to the story, Toyin’s side and the Ahmed family’s side. There are also eyewitness accounts supporting the Ahmed family’s story.
In an exclusive interview with YNaija, Toyin told the reporter that she suspected something was fishy when the family refused to let her see Mayowa yesterday morning and claimed that she wasn’t part of the #SaveMayowa campaign.
She said she had to lie to them that the Lagos State governor’s wife was interested in footing the bills before they gave her access. She later went to meet one of the doctors (in charge of Mayowa’s case?) who told her that the medical reports were fake and that Mayowa’s case was already past redemption. The founder of Lifestake foundation, Aramide Kasumu who also lent her voice to the campaign claimed that she was the one who facilitated Mayowa’s admission to LUTH where she was being treated.
Listen to the full interview.
However, Mayowa’s sister, Mariam and her cousin, Habeeb both stated emphatically that the campaign was not a scam. Mariam told Pulse that Mayowa was really shaken by the allegations and has been restless since the reports surfaced.
She also mentioned that no doctor wrote Mayowa off, contrary to Toyin Aimakhu’s claims. Watch the interview below.
Corroborating Mariam’s story, NTA Lagos spoke to the Head of Initiative at LUTH who said no doctor wrote Mayowa’s case off.
Mayowa’s cousin, Habeeb Olufoye explained in a video released on YouTube that the decision to fly Mayowa to Abu Dhabi was made as a result of concerns for her health. He said a straight journey to Atlanta would have been too long thus they decided to break the journey down. Contrary to reports that Mayowa was supposed to fly out last night, he said her travel documents weren’t even ready yet. Watch the video below.
The slight twist to the story however is the eyewitness account. According to Facebook user, Dee who was at the hospital when the drama started, Toyin was drunk.
The videos have however been deleted from Facebook but here’s one of them gotten by KanyiTV where Toyin Aimakhu denied calling Linda Ikeji.
