Taiwo Ajayi – Lycett is not just your regular Veteran.
The talented Actress who turns 75 today has achieved enough in her career to be “deityfied” and to get the role of the Original Gangsta (OG).
Here are some (note some) of the reasons the Actress is the OG.
She worked her ass off to get to the top – Taiwo Ajayi Lycett did not expect the word to fall at her beautiful brown feet. The Tinsel star worked hard even as a young black woman in the United Kingdom in the 60s. Combining work and her studies, she was able to achieve her Higher National Diploma in Business Studies in 1969.
She is a badass Journalist too – This woman pretty much knows everything. In 1975, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett covered the inaugural conference of the International woman’s year in Mexico and East Berlin as a photojournalist.
The Stage and Screen bow down to her – Forgive me if I am awed by someone who can slay both on screen and on stage, it’s 2016 Nigeria, a period where that is scarce. Wole Soyinka’s Death and The King’s Horseman, JP Clark’s Song Of A Goat and Wole Oguntokun’s The Inheritors are part of the Veteran’s acting history on stage. And, let’s not forget her many performances on stages in the UK.
She’s been in a movie with Sidney Poitier – The Actress starred in a movie with Oscar winner and respected Hollywood Actor, Sidney Poitier, called A Warm December.
She is a social commentor and Mentor – The Dazzling Mirage Actress has spoken on topics like Relationship, Sex and the Single, Gender Emancipation and so on. So basically, like the real OG, she learnt and then shared with the younger generation.
How else to be an Original Gangsta?
Happy birthday mama!
