Kannywood is a kingdom on its own.
The Hausa film industry which had its name coined from the ancient city of Kano hardly gets more than a passing glance in the Southern parts of Nigeria. This, however, does not take away from the superstar status and mass followership that key Kannywood players enjoy among the fans of the film industry.
Ali Nuhu, Adam Zango, Rahama Sadau, Sani Danja are among Kannywood stars who recorded considerable success in the year 2015.
While it wasn’t all good the industry witnessed as it lost its oldest actress, Mai Aya, Kannywood saw improvements in production techniques, story lines and more.
Premium Times has attempted a review of the industry in 2015.
“The good things that happened in the Kannywood industry in 2015 include the technical advancement of production techniques, introduction of new equipment in filmmaking and improvement of movie story lines. Movies like Gwaska, Hindu, Halacci, Indon Kauye, Garejin Hassan, Sa-In-Sa, So, Salma and Rumfar Shehu personify some of these improvements. Another good news in the industry was the introduction for the first time of the Kannywood category in the African Movie Awards in London were Ali Nuhu, Adam Zango and Rahama Sadau all won awards in the 2015 event.“
