Nollywood actress, Grace Ama recently spoke to Broadway TV about how it felt coming back to the Nigerian movie industry after a long hiatus.
She credited Mary Remmy Njoku for being instrumental to her comeback and spoke about the difference between the Nollywood she left then and the Nollywood she met (Old Nollywood va New Nollywood).
Speaking about the difference, Ama said, “I don’t want to use the word ‘old and new,’ but Nollywood back then, I would say there’s a whole lot of difference,” she said.
“There was this….professionalism. There was this love. There was this care, you could look out for one another. But the New Nollywood? I’m sorry to say but what I see a lot is that there is a lot of desperation. There is a lot of wanting to outshine others, which is not a bad thing in that sense. But when it becomes a selfish thing, then there’s a problem to it.
“There is a lot of nonchalancy (sic), not taking the profession as what its supposed to be, not respecting your seniors.Just because we find ourselves on a particular set then it looks like everyone is the same, or we are mates.
“But in terms of production there’s a whole lot of difference there’s a lot of improvement in terms of scripting, in terms of production, in terms of camera quality, and in terms of story,” the actress added.
