Paul McCartney is one of the greatest Artistes alive. Heck, dude was part of one of the biggest bands this world has ever witnessed (The Beatles) and, he was in that group with John freaking Lennon.
So when someone like Paul McCartney acknowledges the awesomeness of Fela, then you know that the music and artistry of the late music icon can never be underrated.
You see, years ago, before Kim Kardashian, Gangsta Rap, Trap music and Pangolo music, there was the deity you may like to call Fela who blessed us with his deep music.
Fela was not just a blessing through his music, he was a blessing through his fierce protection of our culture, our art and our government.
So when Paul McCartney came to record his album here in Nigeria, Fela went into full mother hen mode, that is, made sure nothing was being taken away (read: stolen) from here.
And while Paul McCartney came here mainly to record new music, even he could not shake off the music of Abami Eda himself.
Decades after his encounter with Fela, he still remembers the sound he heard from the shrine that year!
Spiritual or not?
