Genevieve Nnaji‘s 2015 hit movie, Road to Yesterday was NOT considered AT ALL for the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) nominees list released last night, TNS has gathered.
Tongues have been wagging as to why the Ishaya Boko-directed film was missing from the categories it was eligible for on the list announced by AMAA at an event in Ikeja, Lagos yesterday, Sunday. However, the chairman of the awards jury, Shaibu Husseini revealed to TNS that the film was not considered because the producers failed to submit a DVD copy or a link to the film before the window for entries closed.
“It wasn’t considered at all,” Husseini said. “They registered their interest as I could see that they filled the form, but they did not submit the film before the deadline expired.”
He continued, “I don’t know why, but maybe it is due to fear of piracy because the film hasn’t been released yet. Some of the films from Nigeria were submitted via Vimeo links.”
Shaibu Husseini however stated that Road to Yesterday still stands a chance of being considered for next year’s AMAA provided it isn’t released before then.
