You must be sleeping under Zuma Rock if you have no idea how amazing the premiere of The Voice Nigeria was last week.
Because many of us were already waiting to laugh out loud (considering how bad previous shows brought from the Abroad have been here), we had been chilling with our favorite Nollywood meme somewhere on our phones, ready to tweet if anything went wrong.
But nothing went wrong. In fact, the show is one of the best things to have happened to Nigerian TV in a while. And so while we look forward to it today, these are our top fave moments of The Voice Nigeria from last week Sunday.
The performance of Tubaba’s 2009 hit song “Implication” by the four Judges – I have to admit, the performance got me singing (in off key half of the time), cheering (like I was watching a Grammys performance) and shaking my small booty. It was a delight to see Timi Dakolo, Waje, Patoranking and 2baba himself perform one of my favorite Tuface hits. Definitely loved it!
Hosts IK Osakiduwa and Stephanie Coker did not fail to deliver – I must admit, I was not sure what to expect when MTV Base’s Stephanie Coker was announced as the co-host of The Voice. But after seeing her last week, she raised the bar for me. And let’s not forget that touching scene where she cried after seeing a Contestant’s mom get so emotional.
Talking about IK Osakiduwa, who knew he could sing like that, huh? – Just in case you thought IK’s talents were limited to hosting Big Brother eviction events, AMVCA and that his other show, well, you can like to stay woke. The media personality certainly shocked me when he harmonized a song one of the contestants sang and boy was it good? Mrs Osakioduwa is one lucky diva.
Meanwhile, Patoranking sitting on the stage was exciting to see! – With every Judge trying to ensure they got the best Singers, each of our superstar judges went all the way sometimes.
But we never saw Patoranking sitting on the stage in our wildest dreams. And he did!
I most definitely can’t wait for the return of The Voice tonight!
