Film critic, performing artiste and journalist, Shaibu Husseini who has been the Chair of the College of Screeners of Africa’s premier film award-the African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for four years running as well as a member of the AMAA jury seems to have thrown a subtle jibe the way of the organizers of the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA).
In a tweet that he posted yesterday, Husseini reminded the public that AMAA award jurors do not ask industry practitioners and award nominees to solicit votes to decide who walks home with the awards.
AMVCA is popular for encouraging nominees to solicit (and according to some, beg) the public for votes.
The alumnus of the Berlinale Talent Campus press also added that the awards was “not a popularity contest.”
It remains to be seen whether his tweet will generate a response from the guys at AMVCA.
Meanwhile, members of the board of AMAA jurors have arrived LA for final nomination meeting and nominations are expected to be announced on June 20.
