Will Smith will not be attending the Oscars.
The Concussion star has revealed his decision to stay away from this year’s Oscars after his wife revealed she will be boycotting the awards.
While on Good Morning America, the Actor revealed that he was out of the country when his wife recorded the now famous video where she revealed her disappointment with this year’s nominations. And while he might not have had prior notice, he is proud of her.
Will Smith said of his famous wife,
She’s deeply passionate and when she is moved she has to go. I heard her words and I was knocked over. I was happy to be married to that woman.
My wife’s not going, it would be awkward to show up with Charlize. We’re part of this community but at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say that this is okay.
As for comments about Jada boycotting the Oscars because he was not nominated, Will said,
There’s probably a part of that in there, but for Jada, had I been nominated and no other people of color were, she would have made the video anyway. We’d still be here having this conversation. This is so deeply not about me.
Shortly after Jada Pinkett released a video about her decision to boycott this year’s Oscars, an old co star of Will Smith, Janet Hubert came for both Jada and her husband, slamming them and calling them selfish.
However, if Will Smith and Jada saw that video or heard the comments, then they are not acting like it because these two are putting up a unified front.
