BY ESE DIBEBI

Nollywood actress, Adesua Etomi has gradually forced her name into a household one with consistently strong acting performances.

Since her relocation to Nigeria from the UK, Owerri-born Adesua has appeared in numerous films and television series some of which include Brave, Knocking on Heaven’s Door, A Soldier’s Story, Out of Luck, Couple of Days and the widely acclaimed MTV Shuga series 4.

She picked up the Best Actress award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) after her brilliant performance in Uduak Isong’s Falling.

Speaking after the press screening of Niyi Akinmolayan’s The Arbitration, the actress revealed that after winning one of the most coveted individual film awards on the continent, her focus has shifted to the global stage.

Adesua told TNS, “I’d like to win an Oscar in the next five years.” I’d like to dominate the world of performance. I think it’s essential to put Nigeria on the map. I think it is essential to let them know that there’s talent in Nigeria.

“I’d like to dominate the world of performance. I think it’s essential to put Nigeria on the map. I think it is essential to let them know that there’s talent in Nigeria. I have huge dreams, my dreams scare me. I’ve pretty much just started,” she added.

When reminded that there is #OscarsSoWhite for her to contend with, she said, “So, here’s the thing about me. Everyone always has an opinion about how hard everything is going to be. But I’m a bit like Dara. If you show me your problem, I will show you a solution.”

“The same thing was said when I came to Nollywood. ‘You just came from the UK, no one knows you, you don’t know anybody’ But one has just got to keep working. Just keep working. You’ve got to keep praying and keep pushing. The only person who can stop you is you. I can be ‘white’ wherever I go.”
