Video: “I Understand The Idea Of Cliques” – Kemi Lala Akindoju Discusses Nollywood

Following the verbal confrontation between Nollywood stars, Toyin Abraham and Adesua Etomi on stage at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference, another actress, Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju dropped her two cents on the debate.

Abraham felt actors should belong in relevant associations like Actors Guild of Nigeria, while Adesua said that it was not needed, especially for upcoming acts.

While both stars argued, Thenetng spoke with Kemi Lala, who took charge of the acting masterclass, to hear her thoughts on the issue.

And she stated there’s no problem belonging to associations in Nollywood, as they bring about more referrals.

According to her, ‘In Nollywood, the truth is people will work with people they like.

‘If I get to work with you once and I like you; it may not even be about your talent, chances are I will call you again. And then we always work together and then it’s like, we are a clique.’

She added, ‘We need referrals. Industries are built on referrals. If I’m close to somebody who has a role that works for me, they will recommend me for it before they recommend someone that they don’t know.’
