Despite the forced cancellation of Omoni Oboli‘s new film, Okafor’s Law, the planned cocktail and afterparty still went ahead as scheduled.
Raconteur Productions had gone ahead to sue the producer, Oboli and her Dioni Visions for alleged infringement of intellectual property belonging to Canada-based writer, Jude Idada.
Idada had alleged that Oboli stole his work for use in the controversial Okafor’s Law.
The plaintiff in this case had obtained a court injunction prohibiting Omoni Oboli from releasing the film in Nigeria. This disrupted the planned premiere at iMAX FilmHouse, Lekki.
An emotional Oboli had announced the cancellation to the gathered audience but insisted that everything about the film was hers.
However, the cocktail and afterparty went on unhindered. Among those who attended were Toyin Aimakhu, Ufuoma McDermott, Uche Jombo-Rodriguez, Annie Idibia, Ini Edo and more.
