One of the biggest names in Nollywood when it involves distribution, Igwe Gabriel Okoye also known as Gabosky has revealed that the controversial MOPICON draft bill was doctored.
He said this while speaking at yesterday’s Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC). Gabosky also revealed that contrary to widespread belief, twenty-seven guilds in the industry came up with the MOPICON idea.
“The initial MOPICON Bill was doctored,” he said. “27 guilds came up with this draft Bill. The NFC worked on it further.”
Igwe Gabosky also said that the previous administration had plans to revisit the document.
“We put pressure on Goodluck Jonathan to not touch it. Okada riders have associations. It is only in this industry that there is no structure. When government brought out Project ACT, all of them became producers, directors and marketers.
Speaking further on the need for MOPICON, the G-Media boss said, “What we want to do is to get all of you to have representation and get a proper structure. We are trying to interpret ourselves and do what we know how to do best.”
“Let’s remove what is bad and take away what is good in the MOPICON Bill,” he concluded.
