Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde: A Look Into The Life Of “Africa’s Marilyn Monroe” At 40


Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is a year older today.

In celebration, the actress has lined up a 5-Day event tagged “Omotola4Point0” which kicks off today, February 7 and ends February 11, 2018.

Over time Omotola has continually served us career and life goals, and in honour of her special day, we compiled 40 interesting facts about this amiable icon most people might not know.

  1. Omosexy, a name she was given by her husband, Capt. Matthew Ekeinde, is tattooed on his upper arm. 
  2. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria. 
  3. She lost her father at the age of 12.
  4. Her favorite food is plantain and fish. 
  5. Initially, her mother did not welcome the idea of her daughter becoming an actress but she had to give in when the director and entire crew of 1995 movie, Venom of Justice went to her house and begged her mother to allow her feature in the movie. 
  6. Omotola met her husband when she was 16 and he was 26. They tied the knot two years later when when she was 18.
  7. She speaks Yoruba, Ondo and a bit of Igbo.
  8. Omotola was paid N43,000 on her first movie. 
  9. She was from a Muslim background but she converted into Christianity when she was still teenager. 
  10. When Omotola launched her reality show Omotola: The Real Me on Africa Magic in 2012, it became the most viewed TV show in Africa. 
  11. She had her primary school education at Chrisland Schools, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos.

  20. On November 9, 2013, Omotola was conferred with a traditional Chieftaincy title in her hometown by Oba Victor Kiladejo, the Royal King of Ondo Kingdom. 
  21. In 2013, she was honoured in Time Magazine list of the 100 Most Influential People In The World alongside Michelle Obama, Beyonce and Kate Middleton. 
  22. Omotola had her Secondary school education at Command Secondary School, Kaduna.
